William Koch

William C. Koch, Jr. (b. September 12, 1947) is an Associate Justice on the Tennessee Supreme Court, a position to which he was appointed in June 2007. In 2008, he won a retention election for a full eight-year term on the court. His current term ends in 2016.[1],[2]
Justice Koch is one of four justices on the five-justice court appointed by Democratic governor Phil Bredesen.
Legal education
Justice Koch attained his B.A. from Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut) in 1969, his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law, in 1972; and his LL.M in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1996.
Legal experience
Justice Koch was Assistant Attorney General from 1972 to 1976, Senior Assistant Attorney General from 1976 to 1977, Deputy Attorney General from 1977 to 1978, and Commissioner of Personnel from 1979 to 1981. He served as Counsel to Governor Alexander from 1981 to 1984. Justice Koch has been an Instructor in Constitutional Law for the Nashville School of Law since 1997 and taught at the Vanderbilt University School of Law from 1988 to 1995. He was appointed by Governor Lamar Alexander to the Tennessee Court of Appeals in 1984 where he served until June of 2007 when Governor Phil Bredesen appointed him to the Supreme Court of Tennessee in June of 2007.
