William Orville Douglas

William Orville Douglas (1898-1980) was an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States.

He was nominated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 20, 1939 to replace Louis Dembitz Brandeis. He was confirmed by the Senate on April 4th, and received commission on April 15th. On November 12, 1975, he assumed senior status and continued to serve in this capacity until his death on January 19, 1980.[1]
