Willis B. Hunt, Jr. is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He is serving on senior status. [1]

Early life and education

Hunt graduated from Emory with an Bachelor of Laws degree in 1954 and later graduated from Virginia Law with an LL.M. degree in 1990. Hunt also served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957[1].

Professional career

Hunt began his legal career as a special agent for the FBI from 1957 to 1959 before being a private practice attorney licensed in Florida from 1959 to 1960 and in Georgia from 1960 to 1971. Hunt began his judicial career as a Superior Court Judge in the Houston County Superior Court from 1971 to 1986 before being appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris as Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court from 1986-1995[1].

Judicial career

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, Hunt was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 23, 1995 to a seat vacated by Horace Ward. Hunt was confirmed by the Senate on March 24, 1995 on a majority voice vote and received commission on March 24, 1995[2]. Hunt later assumed senior status on June 30, 2005[1]. Hunt was succeeded in this position by Tim Batten.
