Yazoo County is one of 82 counties in Mississippi. The county is served by several courts. The Yazoo County Court is one of nineteen county courts and has exclusive jurisdiction over eminent domain proceedings and juvenile matters in the county. The County Court judge also serves as the Youth Court judge.[1]

The 11th Chancery District has jurisdiction over disputes in matters involving equity; domestic matters including adoptions, custody disputes and divorces; guardianships; sanity hearings; wills; and challenges to the constitutionality of state laws.[2] The District Circuit Court hears felony criminal prosecutions and civil lawsuits."[3]

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi has jurisdiction in Yazoo County. Appeals from the Southern District go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
