Andrew Wendell Bouge was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota. He was nominated by Richard Nixon in 1970 and served until his death on June 10, 2009.
Early life and education
Bouge graduated from South Dakota State University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1941 and later earned his juris doctoral degree from the University of South Dakota in 1947. Bouge served in the Military as member of the US Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946 and as a member of the JAG Corps from 1950 to 1952. [1]
Professional career
Bouge was a private practice in South Dakota from 1947 to 1950 and 1954 to 1967. After serving in the JAG Corps, Bouge was elected State's attorney for Turner County from 1950 to 1952 and in 1967 Bouge was appointed by the South Dakota Judicial Nominating Commission to become Judge in the Second Judicial District Circuit Court covering Sioux Falls, SD from 1967 to 1970. Judicial career
District of South Dakota
On the recommendation of Senator Karl Mundt, Bogue was nominated by President Richard Nixon on March 19, 1970 to a seat vacated by John Beck. Bouge was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 23, 1970 and received commission on April 24, 1970. Bouge served as chief judge of the District of South Dakota from 1980 to 1985 before assuming senior status on July 1, 1985. He served in that capacity until his death on June 10, 2009. [1]
