District judge nominees approved by Senate Judiciary Committee
South Dakota and West Virginia: Two of President Obama's nominees for United States district courts have been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Irene Berger was unanimously approved for a vacancy on the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. If she is approved by the full Senate, Berger would be the first black federal judge in West Virginia. Also, Roberto Lange was approved by the Judiciary Committee for a seat on the District of South Dakota.
Both of the candidates were nominated by Barack Obama in July of 2009. A date for the full Senate to vote whether to confirm these nominations has not yet been set.
