Federal judgeship nomination
Russell was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Maryland by President Obama on November 10, 2011. Obama commented on the nominations, stating, "These individuals have demonstrated the talent, expertise, and fair-mindedness Americans expect and deserve from their judicial system. I am grateful for their willingness to serve and confident that they will apply the law with the utmost impartiality and integrity."[2] He is nominated to fill the seat vacated by Peter Messitte. [3]
Early life and education
Russell earned B.A. in 1988 from Morehouse College. He earned his J.D. from University of Maryland School of Law in 1991. [2]
Professional career
Russell began his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert Bell from 1991-1992. He went on to private practice at Hazel & Thomas PC from 1992 to 1994. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland from 1994-1999. He returned to private practice at the Law Office of Peter G. Angelos, PC from 2000-2002 before returning to a post as a Assistant United States Attorney from 2002-2007. He took his current post on the Maryland Eighth Circuit in 2007. [2]
