James E. Shadid is a judge on the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. He joined the court in 2011 on an appointment from President Barack Obama. Prior to his appointment, he was a judge on the Tenth Circuit of Illinois. [1] Shadid was appointed to the court in December of 2001 and elected to a full term in 2002. [2]
Early life and education
Judge Shadid received his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 1983 and his B.S. from Bradley University in 1979. [3]

Judicial career
Central District of Illinois
In February of 2010 Senator Dick Durbin recommended Shadid to President Obama for a seat on the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. [4]
On May 27, 2010, President Obama nominated Shadid to the Central District of Illinois to replace Michael Mihm. [5] Shadid needs to be confirmed by the Senate in order to advance to the bench.
Shadid received a rating of "Qualified" from the substantial majority of the American Bar Association, and a rating of "Well Qualified" from the minority. [6]
Judiciary committee hearing
Shadid's hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee was on September 15, 2010. [7] He was moved out of committee on a voice vote on December 1, 2010 and now awaits confirmation by the full Senate. [8]

Nomination returned to President
Shadid's nomination was returned to the President at the end of the 111th congress. Shadid was resubmitted by the President as a nomination for federal Circuit Court on Wednesday, January 5, 2011.[9]

Confirmation
Shadid was confirmed to his position by the U.S. Senate on March 7, 2011 by an 89-0 vote. [10]
