James M. Catterson is a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He has served in this Division since April of 2004. His current term on the Supreme Court ends on December 31, 2013.[1][2]


Judge Catterson was born in 1958. He received his B.A. degree from Colgate University in 1980 and his J.D. degree from the St. John's University School of Law.[1]

Legal career

Judge Catterson began his legal career in 1986 working for the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of New York. In 1992, he joined the Suffolk County Attorney's Office, where he served until his election to the Supreme Court in 1998. He took office in 1999 and served in the 10th Judicial District until 2004. He was then designated to the Appellate Division, where he currently serves.[1]
