Keller appointed to Kentucky Supreme Court

Kentucky: Gov. Steve Beshear filled a vacancy on the Kentucky Supreme Court on April 3, appointing Court of Appeals Judge Michelle Keller. She was chosen to replace retired Justice Wil Schroder, who stepped down in January after he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Keller will represent the 6th Supreme Court District, effective immediately.[1]

Following the announcement of her appointment, Keller stated,

I am very grateful to Gov. Beshear and I am humbled by his confidence, as well as the confidence and support of so many people in my district and beyond. I will work hard to provide justice to my fellow Kentuckians and continue the fine legacy of Justice Schroder.[1]

This marks the first time in Kentucky's history that three women have served on the high court at the same time. The other two current female justices are Lisabeth Hughes Abramson and Mary Noble. Keller is also the fifth woman to have ever served on the state's Supreme Court.[1]

Keller has served as an appellate judge since 2006. Prior to that, she worked as a lawyer, both in private practice and as an assistant county prosecutor. She is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University's Salmon P. Chase College of Law.[1]
