Louisiana judicial system
The structure of the Louisiana judicial system is laid out in Article V of the state Constitution. The state court system is made up of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Louisiana Courts of Appeal, the Louisiana District Courts, the Louisiana Family Courts, the Louisiana Juvenile Courts, the Louisiana Parish Courts, the Louisiana City Courts, the Louisiana Municipal Courts, the Louisiana Justice of the Peace Courts and the Louisiana Mayor’s Courts.
The federal court system is made up of the Eastern District of Louisiana, the Western District of Louisiana and Middle District of Louisiana. These courts are part of the Fifth Circuit.
