The Superior Court of the District of Columbia is a trial court of general jurisdiction in Washington, D.C. It was established by Congress in 1970. [1]

Jurisdiction

The Superior Court handles all local trial matters. This includes:

  • civil
  • criminal
  • family court
  • probate
  • tax
  • landlord-tenant
  • small claims
  • traffic [1]

Judges

There is a chief judge overseeing the court and 61 associate judges. There are 24 magistrate judges assisting the court, along with retired judges serving in senior status. [1]
