Valerie Brathwaite Nelson is a justice of the Queens County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 11th Judicial District of New York. She was elected to this position in 2005 and her current term expires in 2018.[1][2]

Education

Brathwaite Nelson received her B.A. degree from Syracuse University and her J.D. degree from George Washington University.[1]

Legal career

Brathwaite Nelson began her career as a law clerk for U.S. Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. She then worked as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, an attorney for the New York State Senate Staff, and as a private practice attorney. She served on the New York City Civil Court of Queens County prior to her election to the Queens County Supreme Court in 2005.[1]
