Washington, D.C. judicial system

The Washington, D.C. judicial system consists of two main courts, a court of appeals and superior court. The District of Columbia Court of Appeals is the equivalent of a state supreme court. As the court of last resort for the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals reviews all final orders, judgments and specified interlocutory orders of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The Superior Court of the District of Columbia is a trial court of general jurisdiction which handles local trial matters.

The federal district court for Washington, D.C. is the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Appeals of that court's decision go to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
